Sweden’s Active Play Paid Off

Team Sweden – Team USA 7–5
The President’s Pool series of the Ringette World Championships continued as Sweden faced off against the USA at the RTK Arena in Lahti. The scoring began within the first minute of play when Nilla Wernersson fired a powerful shot into the near corner. The first period was dominated by the Swedish team, with USA’s goalie Ashley Steel recording 13 saves, while Sweden’s Erica Richardson had to make only one save during the period.

USA’s Brooklyn Bomke tied the game early in the second period with a precise shot to the top corner. A second goal was almost scored when Brooke Fels broke through the Swedish defense, but Richardson’s bold move out of the net stopped the scoring attempt. The long intermission between the second and third periods began with Sweden leading 4–3.

In the third period, Sweden’s Kajsa Frankenberg celebrated two goals, and team captain Jessika Runolf completed a hat trick. The final goal of the game came at 44:15 in the third period when USA’s Darcy Woods battled for the ring in the offensive zone and successfully scored. The fourth period was evenly matched but remained goalless. The best players of the match were awarded to Sweden’s Emilia Castañeda Månsson and USA’s Brooke Fels.
